Feng Shui Myths and Truths
There are some myths surrounding Feng Shui which have come about through over-simplification of this complex subject. Most of them are simply not true:
Myth
There is an easy way to locate the wealth corner of a house; it is located in the far left hand or southeast corner of the house.
True Feng Shui
There is no simple way to determine the “wealth corner”.
However, every house has a compass direction from which very radiant energy enters the building – as long as there is a door or window in that direction. This is what makes a building healthy and radiant!
By allowing this energy to enter and circulate in the home or office, you can improve the amount of life force available to you. When there is great life force in a building, it is easier to be productive. In that way your business and wealth prospects are increased.
The direction this ‘wealth energy’ comes from varies from house to house; it can come from any of the 8 compass directions.
To locate the direction of this ‘wealth energy’ in your home or office, advanced Feng Shui formulas are necessary. These incorporate the age of the individual building as well as its accurate compass measurement. (This is based on the Flying Star school of Feng Shui)
The direction of this ‘wealth energy’ also changes over time in one building – every 20 years to be exact.
In the same way, there are no set relationship-, career- or other corners in a house. Nevertheless, each building contains different individual energies in its various areas, which are in turn conducive to different activities.
Myth
You have to believe in Feng Shui in order for it to work.
True Feng Shui
Feng Shui is a system that explains and adjusts a building’s physical and energy environment. It is concerned with matter and energy in a space over time.
While you have a body you are exposed to and subject to these influences of the physical environment - regardless of whether you believe in them or not.
For example, your body would crash into a wall, even if you believed the wall was not there. In the same way, you are subject to the more subtle energies of the universe. Belief has nothing to do with these energies that we work with in Feng Shui.
To make the point: You would find agreement amongst people in regards to which building they find radiant and pleasant to be in, and which one they find heavy and uncomfortable. Such experiences are real, not imaginary.
Feng Shui predicts and improves the feel and energies of a place. – That it works can be verified by experience.
Myth
There is Marriage Trouble because the Relationship Corner is in the toilet or missing.
True Feng Shui
Firstly, there is no universal corner for relationships (see first myth). Popular books try to tell you that the relationship corner is in the Southwest or far right corner of every house.
This is not true. Therefore, having a toilet in these areas does not generally affect your relationships.
Each house, however, has various directions that support relationships and good communication if properly used and decorated. Where they are, is different for each building, and worth finding out about.
In regards to a missing corner: A balanced rectangular shape brings generally more stability than irregular house shapes. Yet, irregular house shapes are not necessarily bad and often suit our dynamic modern lives well.
Fact is that there are some areas that admit unfavourable energy in every house. If corners with such negative energy are missing, this is actually a good thing. However, if corners with good potential are missing this is a negative feature.
To make a judgement of whether a missing corner is favourable or unfavourable, you will need to find out what type of energy is missing from an irregular shaped house. To do this you will need an individual analysis of the building.
