Have you ever wondered why you can be sitting in one room one day and feel uncomfortable yet make modifications to the furniture
and colours the next day and it can be the most relaxing and comfortable space in your home?
TV shows like Better Homes and Gardens, Renovation Blitz and Backyard Blitz do it every weekend. For most interior decorators
and colour designers, they have an innate knowing of what colours and positioning will suit a particular environment.
The Chinese have a word for this – Feng Shui. Translated literally to mean wind and water it is the science behind how our
environment and the way we use it impacts the way we feel and experience life. Many of us think it is an alternate almost
religious experience, however, traditional Feng Shui is systematic and practical with the fundamentals based on thousands of
years of recorded observations from nature. When put into practice, the results of Feng Shui are amazing – it makes the area
feel better and will improve aspects of daily life like financial position, health and general well being.
The origins of Feng Shui trace back almost 6000 years to the first uncovered writings of Yin and Yang and the five elements of
Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Water. In fact, these are the fundamental building blocks of all Eastern metaphysical sciences
including Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, I-Ching, Four Pillars of Destiny and so on.
Classical Form School Feng Shui aligns to nature’s structure and order because it is based on the physical forces of nature
whereas Flying Star School Feng Shui aligns to nature’s rhythm being the influence of nature’s influences through time and
space. If you are in tune with your natural environment and have a sense of protection and survival, then you are going to make
good decisions for example on placement of your sofa in relation to the Plasma TV.
Flying Star Feng Shui is for those serious about protecting their health, preserving their income and ensuring lasting
relationships and requires a professional consultant to make the best recommendations with lasting results. For those that are
new to the concept of Feng Shui and want to get their feet wet, the perfect time to try some basic principles is on entering the
property market.
When selecting an existing property, it can become an expensive exercise to hire a Feng Shui consultant on every prospective
purchase. It is extremely rare to find an existing building with perfect Feng Shui so follow these tips below to find your home
then, obtain a Feng Shui assessment during the cooling off period to help you with your flying stars and recommendations for
arrangement of furniture, colours and landscaping so you’re ready once you get the keys.
- Spiritual Shars - scan your neighbourhood to search for buildings like police stations, grave yards, cemeteries, churches
and hospitals. These buildings contain dense yin energy which can have a negative impact on nearby homes. If you do purchase or
have a home in sight of a building like those mentioned and are experiencing a deterioration in circumstances get a Feng Shui
consultant in to make recommendations on how you can remedy or minimise the negative impact of this shar chi on your home and
family.
- Protection at your back - the main principle of Form School Feng Shui is you have shelter or protection from the wind at
your back and water or open space at the front of your home. In urban Feng Shui mountain ranges or hills that protect you from
the wind are replaced with a tall and solid buildings or a hedge of tall trees. Buying on the high side of the road will give
you this natural land form and ensure good drainage as well as minimising rising damp and rot over time.
- Prosperity at your front - water at the front can be replaced by a roadway or parking area. Water represents incoming
prosperity so anything obstructing the entrance like tall and built up fencing or shrubs will limit the earning capacity of the
home. Landscapes where the land is higher at the front and slopes down at the back – like many cliff faced properties may not
experience good harmony in the home unless other areas are remedied. In this instance, Flying Star Feng Shui can help pinpoint
the problem spaces and minimise the loss in harmony.
- Home embraced by water - Google Earth provides an excellent aerial snap shot of any home. It is ideal to see the curvature
of the road. The best situation is to have the road embrace your home from both sides. Homes at large Intersections or at a T
junction facing the oncoming road are not ideal. The energy coming into the house is too strong and needs to be pacified or
deflected.
- Protection on both sides - there should also be protection on the neighbouring sides of the house. Ideally with the Left
Hand Side (looking at the front through to the back) higher than the Right hand side. This can be in the form of neighbouring
houses, fences and hedging.
- Feeling inside the home - when you walk into the house, take a mental note of how it feels. Is it spacious and airy? Are the
rooms regular shapes? Is this a house you could turn into a home? Small and cramped spaces give a feeling of pressure and lend
themselves to collecting stagnant energy that can cause disruption in the household. Large open spaces allows more freedom and
the ability for energy to circulate more freely
- Odours in the home - when you walk into the house, take a mental note of odour. Residual odour from previous occupants can
permeate throughout the house. If they are warm and inviting this leaves you with a good impression. If the odours are muggy and
even moldy, then you know to look for damp, water leakages and having the additional cash to spend on fixing these as well as
new carpet and fresh paint.
- Residual energies - house warming parties are a great way to break in your new home. It is traditionally a way to release
any residual energy from previous occupants (living and deceased). Many cultures perform a version of house warming, pot banging
or space clearing ceremony. Priests can be brought in to bless a house or white sage can be burned to clear the negative
energies. Whatever makes sense to you, it definitely stirs up stagnant energy and clears the cob webs. Flying Star feng shui can
determine the negative energy areas within your home causing arguments, sickness or misfortune. This same energy would have
affected previous occupants which is why ‘space clearing’ in itself is a temporary measure.
